Haiti Earthquake Relief

Haiti was in chaos before the earthquake struck on the evening of the 12th of January. Haiti is now in absolute chaos. Blessings International’s commenced relief shipments of pharmaceuticals for Haiti the day after the earthquake. On day two post quake, requests for medicines were flowing in rapidly. Efforts to prepare a large shipment were initiated that included 800,000 analgesic tablets, mostly ibuprofen, sufficient to provide initial pain treatment for 32,000 people along with sufficient antibiotics for 4000+ courses of therapy. This shipment of three tall pallets was picked up the afternoon of day 3 post quake and taken immediately transported to St. Louis where, the following morning, it was loaded into a private jet for direct flight to Haiti. On day 5, BI received an email request for III and IV generation injectible cephalosporins from Dr. Dorothy Davison, International Medical Alliance who was operating in a The Buen Samaritano hospital within view of the Haitian border in Jimanin, Dominican Republic in addition to anesthesiologists. Her team was already performing greatly needed orthopedic surgeries on Haitians that were being transported across the border. After finally reaching her by telephone, BI shipped a master case of generic Rocephin® (48 trays of 10 vials, 1 gm each) along with 4,000 tabs of ciprofloxacin 500 mg and 2000 tabs of azithromycin to a physician in California weaving the following evening for the Dominican Republic.
Within a day of his arrival, 16 vials had been used. (see pictures) This shipment was paid for by the cash donations to BI.

At the end of the second week (day10 post quake) BI has completed or was in the process of completing 50 shipments to various ministries from all over the US with an average wholesale value of $1,000,000 or more. By 14 days post quake, BI has or is completing 87 shipments to about 70 different ministries for full-time clinics, hospitals and church/orphanage based clinics treating Haitian earthquake victims. These shipments have a average wholesale value of approximately $1,500,000.
