Recently, we received a heartfelt email from Holly Friesen, offering a poignant glimpse into their tireless work towards restoration and healing in war-torn regions. Holly, accompanied by a team of Ukrainian healthcare professionals, ventures into areas deeply affected by ongoing hostilities, where access to medical care remains scarce amidst the chaos of war.

ABWE's work takes them to small towns on the front lines, where life is marked by hardship and resilience in equal measure. Working in collaboration with local churches, some with just a handful of remaining members, they extend a lifeline of hope to those in need. Offering free consultations and medications, they not only address physical ailments but also foster spiritual connections, opening doors for meaningful dialogue and profound encounters.
“We are often told, ‘thank you for not forgetting us,’" Holly shares.
The stories they encounter are both heartbreaking and inspiring. Patients share tales of survival amidst fear and deprivation, recounting harrowing experiences of life under occupation. Many bear the scars of loss, having buried loved ones who bravely fought for their freedom. Yet, amid the pain and sorrow, there is a glimmer of hope—the hope that springs from the resilience of the human spirit and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
Health issues abound, exacerbated by the toll of stress and uncertainty. High blood pressure, stomach ailments, anxiety, and sleep disturbances are commonplace, symptomatic of the trauma endured by communities caught in the crossfire of conflict. Yet, amidst the struggle, there is solace to be found in the healing touch of compassion and prayer.
