Name: Meagan Briggs
When you began working at Blessings: November 2018
Role: Communications Manager
If you had to compare yourself to a book/movie/TV character, who would you be, and why? This question is so hard! I’m probably a mixture of the 1985 version of Anne Shirley and Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings. Anne is a writer at heart, and she loves adventure, literature, and beauty. Samwise is curious, steadfast, and accomplishes his goals in a unique way.
In your own words, describe what you do and the part you play at Blessings:
I oversee the communications department, which is responsible for all mass communications. We are a team of two (shout out to our dynamic comms associate, James!), and we often have three dozen pokers in the fire of productivity at any given time.
I love that my job requires as much left brain and right brain. I could be looking at code, strategizing SEO, and analyzing/organizing spreadsheets one day, and shooting a video, writing an article, and designing a banner the next.
What’s something about you that would surprise us?
Being a quiet, level-headed person, I often surprise people when I tell them that I have gone bungy jumping, cliff diving, and skydiving. (And that I thought skydiving was very peaceful.)
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
I love that my workplace is a wholesome environment, complete with coworkers I care about and many, many inside jokes. We all work together to fulfill our global purpose, but we remember to have fun and support each other along the way.
Where have you served in a missional capacity?
I have helped build homes for residents living in the dump communities of Nicaragua; volunteered as photographer/videographer on a medical mission to help Ukraine refugees in Moldova after the war began; and most recently, I helped drill a well in Kenya alongside my colleague Jessica.
Where/How would you like to serve in the future?
I intentionally go to different regions for each mission trip because I enjoy seeing what God is doing in other areas of the world—and because I love experiencing new places. Next, I'd like to go to Asia.
What was your last staff devotional about?
It was about the importance of vision, and how, without a vision, the people perish.
Is there a recent accomplishment you’re proud of?
James thoughtfully sneaked this question in because he knew I recently had a Christmas story published in Chicken Soup for the Soul.
What is your best memory here at Blessings?
It’s hard to choose! We have some great traditions here at Blessings and I’ve had the privilege of working with many amazing colleagues over the last six years. I have some fun memories of birthday parties, parking space shenanigans, and practical jokes, but Christmas-card-signing day is always a favorite. We holler and tease as we all sign hundreds of cards the day before Thanksgiving. Then we watch a Christmas movie when all the work is done.
